20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Keith Green is a compilation album by the late American singer, songwriter, and pianist Keith Green, released by Sparrow Records in February 2015, manufactured by Capitol CMG Label Group, distributed in the US by Capitol Christian Distribution.
Of the hundreds and thousands of recordings made during the period when American music was moving from its Jesus music roots to fully developed CCM, few are as genuinely timeless as the output of converted Jew, singer/pianist Keith Green. Before his tragic death in 1982 this powerful prophet musician wrote and recorded some of the best and most challenging ministry music of any era. The 10 tracks presented on this cheap and cheerful compilation are all excellent and several – «Create In Me A Clean Heart», «Asleep In The Light», «So You Wanna Go Back To Egypt» and the worship classic released shortly before his death, «There Is A Redeemer» – deserve to be embraced by Christians young and old. One or two of the arrangements here, with their bright Californian pop sound, are now showing signs of ageing but Keith’s impassioned vocal performances and the consistent power of his songwriting ensure that the only reason discerning CCM buffs could have for not purchasing this set is that they already have the tracks.
