Let Me Show You

Description

Let Me Show You is an album by the British singer and songwriter John Perry, independently released on Heart Music in 1992. The album was produced and recorded by Alan Shacklock (a founding member of the ’70s art-rock act Babe Ruth). John Perry is best known as part of Cliff Richard‘s background vocal trio consisting of Tony Rivers and Stu Calver, as well as John Perry. Electric guitar on tracks 1, 3, and 5 provided by Phil Keaggy.

Or possibly what John can do: contemporary standard-setting Christian rock. The title track is a tribute to the work of Jackie Pullinger and a rebuke to materialism, which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Nonetheless, the message is not mocked by averageish musicianship, there’s fine playing here. The arrangements and production (courtesy of Alan Shacklock) is hot while Phil Keaggy’s soaring guitar fills pure class. John’s singing has never been better while his lyrics, though uncompromising, are not ‘preachy’: John’s songs are a blend of experience, his need of the Lord and a call to be real with Him – free from the taint of being holier than thou. This is thinking Christians’ rock. John sings, “I’ve seen the needle and the damage done, I’ve seen the glory of the risen Son, I know the two can never live together…”. He’s right: Jesus is the answer. [Cliff Doust, Cross Rhythms, February 1993]
