The Church Invincible

Description

The Church Invincible is a praise & worship album by the British singer, songwriter and producer John Pantry, released on Kingsway Music in 1992 (as a part of the label’s The Worship Leaders series).

Such is the versatility of a studio-hardened veteran like John Pantry that he can slip from style to style with consummate ease while bringing worship sensibilities to ballads, folk-roots and something that sounds suspiciously funky to our ears. An attempt to update the old hymn «The Banner Of The Lord» with sax and soul vocalist interjections fails (are you surprised?) but elsewhere the arrangements gel beautifully, like the string quartet on «Sweet Lord» or the (all these titles are guesses, I’m reviewing from a white label). I’m looking forward to playing the album a dozen more times to allow the songs to go deep to heart and spirit. Recommended to all those who value this man’s unique ministry.
