Jaci Velasquez

Description

The self-titled, sophomore major label album by the American singer Jaci Velasquez was released on Myrrh Records in 1998, a division of Word Entertainment. Also manufactured and distributed by Epic, a division of Sony Music. The album was produced by Mark Heimermann for Fun Attic Productions, except track 12 co-produced by Chris Harris.

The best selling debut artist in the history of Christian music follows up her 500,000 selling ‘Heavenly Place‘ album with this self-titled stunner. That so called difficult second album hasn’t phased this self assured teenager with the vocal chops that will ensure she becomes one of the next most significant artists. Totally committed to ministry, this selection of fine songs will only serve to take her even further on the path to minister to her generation. Opening and closing with a cover version of Chris Eaton‘s «God So Loved» (in English and Spanish, fact fans!) Jaci turns her hand to completely compelling pop (the horrendously catchy «Show You Love») intense ballads («You») and even goes ever so slightly alternative letting the guitars loose on another Chris Eaton contribution «Child Of Mine». On «Paper Tigers», she delivers a sultry yearning vocal belying her tender years!! Employing the writing talents of Wayne Kirkpatrick, Toby from DC Talk, Mark Heimermann and Michelle Tumes and a plethora of Nashville production and session talent, this album is as good as a CCM pop CD can be! Even better than the debut, if that’s possible. Couldn’t happen to a nicer woman! [Mike Rimmer, Cross Rhythms, December 1998]

[Dave Urbanski, CCM, June 1998]
