Description
Found a Place is the second major label album (and fifth album overall) by the American pop band FFH (a.k.a. Far From Home), released on Essential Records in 2000, a division of Brentwood Music, manufactured and distributed in the US by Provident Music Distribution. The album was recorded by Julian Kindred, Randy Poole, and Scott Williamson (vocals and overdubs) at Bulldog Studio and The Border in Franklin, at Uno Mas Studio in Brentwood, and at Frontpage Recorders, Starstruck Studios, and Quad Recording Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Williamson producing. Mixed by Tom Laune (tracks 1 to 4, 7, 9, and 10) and Salveson (tracks 5, 6, 8, and 11) at Bridgeway Studios and Recording Arts in Nashville.
1999 was a big year for FFH in the States. Their debut for Essential ‘I Want To Be Like You‘ made waves and produced a number of (Christian radio) hits. Few, however, will recognise the name over here. (Anyone know what the initials stand for?) (Yes: Far From Home. -Ed) On the evidence of this second release, their US popularity is unsurprising. FFH plough a very pleasant pop/worship furrow; husband and wife Jeromy and Jennifer Deibler share vocal duties; lyrics are sincere but simplistic. Think Caedmon’s Call playing a “church kids only” gig. Jeromy writes songs that whole families can “sing back to the Lord”, and producer Scott Williamson provides a sound they call “cross-generational” but everyone else calls bland – acoustic pop, clean vocals, accomplished but lacking character. All of which is not unattractive – certain tunes soon had me humming along, such as first US single «When I Praise». FFH do what they do very well, and ‘Found A Place’ would be great for, say, young teenagers looking for the worship equivalent of the latest chart idols. With Brits praising along to the likes of Delirious?, Tree and Sonicflood, however, FFH would struggle to make an impact. [Paddy Hudspith, Cross Rhythms, June 2000]
