Description
Sprinkle Me Luv is the debut album by the American hip-hop group Priesthood, released on Metro One in 1999, distributed by both Word Distribution and Diamante.
Preisthood are J-Raw, Mr Swift and Papa Semm, a team of Samoan/black rappers on Metro One, home to holy hip hoppers such as T Bone and K2S. At times Priesthood sound reminiscent to K2S, but at others like the poppy rap style of the G.O.G.z. However, the later seems to be their main weakness. Take the title track, for example. The music is decent enough but the rapping is too crowded at times, which spoils the enjoyment of an otherwise okay tune. Nut when J-Raw and co get their groove on on track like «Be Around» (my fave track), «Sunshine», «Headz Up», or the dreamy «U Can’t Hide From Luv», can the true Preisthood style (phat beats, blatantly Christian but clever rhymes and gorgeously soulful vocals) same through. All in all, they ain’t got nothin’ on GRITS, the Cross Movement, T Bone or our very own N-Daze, but if you want slammin’ hip hop with occasional gentle poppy moments then join the Preisthood.
