Description
Remedy is the fourth full-length studio album and seventh effort overall by the American contemporary worship combo David Crowder Band, released on sixstepsrecords/Sparrow Records in September 2007, manufactured by EMI CMG Label Group and distributed in the US by EMI CMG Distribution. The album was recorded by Shane D. Wilson in the barn behind David Crowder’s house with the band producing. (Recording assistance and additional recording by Mark Drury.) Mixed by Shane D. Wilson assisted by Kip Kubin at Pentavarit in Nashville, Tennessee.
After the success and critical fuss that was made over ‘A Collision’, it was always going to be hard to follow up that album! Instead of the wild diversification and creativity in their previous album, ‘Remedy’ sees Crowder simplify things and deliver his most accessible album in years. Sticking to a simple pop rock style with electro flourishes and some DJ scratching to link tracks together, this is still an absolute winner. He has a knack for penning songs that hit you in the gut from the slow burning opener «The Glory Of It All» to the gorgeous stunning ballad «Never Let Go», this is a collection of worship songs that really connect. Even at his most accessible and straight forward, this is musically accomplished and you shouldn’t think it fits into the more generic feel of that host of other worship albums out there that seem formulaic by comparison. Instead Crowder hits his stride with a set of songs that seem to invite the presence of God into the struggles and challenges of everyday life with a reminder that only in God will we truly find the “Remedy”, the healing for our hurts. Highlights include the folky acoustic version of «O For A Thousand Tongues», the fun samples that accompany the poppy synth driven «Neverending» and the gutsy, strident «We Won’t Be Quiet». Ultimately it’s the electro synth additions to the band’s sound that makes this feel fresh. The David Crowder Band are still the most creative force in American worship today and while this isn’t quite the classic like ‘A Collision’, it’s pretty darn close!
