Description

The self-titled album by Crystal Lewis was Kickstarter-funded and released on Metro One Recordings in 2015, distributed by Syntax Creative. The album was recorded at New Monkey Studio, at El Casino, at The Bamboom Room, and at Lightning Rod Studios in Kalispell, Montana; with Elijah Thomson and Peace586 producing. “Be Alright” features Anthony Evans while “In Your Name (For Your Glory)” features Christon Gray.

Crystal has had a long and illustrious career in Christian music almost spanning three decades – her distinctive voice achieving numerous awards. Her versatility and ability to adapt effortlessly to changing musical styles and trends are again proven here on this crowd-funded release. ‘Crystal Lewis’ is a fusion of funky guitars, groovy bass lines and silky soulful R&B vocals with elements of hip-hop, gospel and straight-up power balladry thrown in. Production by Peace586 and Elijah Thomson is cool, polished and slick. Star of the show is Lewis’ stellar vocals which hit all the right notes. Opener «Be Alright» kicks off proceedings with a swagger, church organ and rhythmic bass forming the sonic background as Lewis is joined on guest vocals by gospel artist Anthony Evans. «Faithful» is a laidback piece of pop goodness – ending in a spoken prayer to God and a rallying cry to the troops. «Love Each Other» is an uplifting, finger-snapping number that makes you want to join in the flow – the vocal acrobatics particularly impressive. Album closer is «Brave» – a stripped-down, delicate piano ballad, changing the style and showcasing the entire range of Lewis’ talented vocals as she sings of how God fights for us.
