Songs to the Father of Life is the fifth album by the American singer and songwriter Craig Smith, released on Benson in 1989, distributed by The Benson Company. The album was produced by Paul Mills.
Craig Smith’s second project follows on the heels of his praise-oriented ‘Worship‘ with more acoustic, uplifting songs that fall somewhere on the continuum between Bob Bennett and the wonderful old world renditions of North Star Record’s ‘New England Music Collection’. Producer Paul Mills (of ‘Watercolour Ponies‘ fame) deftly handles french horn, recorder, oboe and fretless bass programming (as well as symphonic orchestration), and sidekick Tom Hemby plays just about everything with strings. Those who have found traditional praise music too bland and the worship music of John Michael Talbot too iconclastic might find solace in Smith’s songs – 11 tunes that are both hip and musically accessible enough to please the typical pop fan.
