Behind the Veil

Description

Behind the Veil, sub-titled Intimate moments with the Father based on Holy Scripture, is a praise & worship album by the American singer and songwriter Craig Smith, released on Brentwood Records in 1996.

Masterminded by Craig Smith and produced by Paul Mills, this album pulls together a host of CCM talent (the usual suspects: Jerry McPherson, Gary Lunn, Lisa Bevill, Chris Rodriguez, et al) in a lushly produced stirring worship experience. It is split into two parts: Before The Throne gives you songs of majestic worship, the highlight of which is the awesome passion of «Holy Is The Lord». Part two is Emmanuel – God With Us which is a selection of songs celebrating the close presence of God and encouraging the worshipper into intimacy. My favourite in this section is the beautiful «Search For Me» where suddenly it seems as though God is very close and it’s easy to fellowship with him. Now isn’t that what you want from a worship album? Craig Smith has a pleasant voice and writes lovely songs. My only complaint is that producer Mills has occasionally overdone the reverb on Smith’s voice so some of it sounds as if he’s singing in a dungeon! That small quibble aside, this is a meaningful worship enhancing album which you’ll love if you want a deep but mellow time with God. [Mike Rimmer, Cross Rhythms, June 1997]
