Not Perfect is the sophomore, final album by the American pop/rock group Church of Rhythm, released on Pamplin Music in 1996. The album was produced by band member Max Hsu except track 9 and 10 co-produced with Jason Gregory.
Church Of Rhythm is founding members Jason Gregory and Max Hsu together with new members Dave Ghazarian, Jerome Cunningham, Matt Miller, and Paul Shamoun.
The Church Of Rhythm, once, of course, dance and pop rap purveyors, re-invent themselves as a pounding six piece pop rock band! Must be the best step forward since dc Talk gave us ‘Jesus Freak‘ because this new set of songs shows COR have grown up lyrically and taken chances musically to ensure the message is heard. Hard rhythms, driving guitars, pop harmonies and a lyrical attack that is vulnerability coated in hope! I’ve been living with this album for a few weeks and I love it! Tell ya why. Because they’re not afraid to be real. «I Believe In God» tackles the issue of talking to those clever, clever people who love to argue that Christians have kissed their brains goodbye. «Life Is Worth Fighting For» comes from songwriter Max Hsu’s experience of a close friend attempting suicide. «Where Is God» addresses issues of pain without simply giving the pat answers. What I love about COR is their honest reality and lack of fear in considering life’s tougher moments! Musical comparisons with dc Talk are inevitable but not the whole story! If you like their music, you’ll get off on this. The song «Not Perfect» attacks the myth that we have it all together which leads to us hiding behind our Christian facades!
