Unusual

Description

Unusual is the sophomore studio album by the American rock band All Together Separate, released on Ardent Records in April 2002, manufactured by Ardent Records, distributed in the US by Chordant Distribution Group. The album was recorded and mixed at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee; with John Hampton and the band producing.

Southern California’s All Together Separate are, in the words of their bio, “one of Christian music’s best kept secrets,” at least in the UK. In their homeland their self-titled debut produced major US radio hits with «Paradigm» and «On And On» while last year’s praise project was one of the best rock worship albums of the year. Now their third album is another delight, densely textured exercises in rock dynamics, all jangly guitar poignancy then exploding into a howling vortex of axe mayhem. Hard at times to classify, you’ll find blues, pop and even jazz elements in the deftly produced mix while lead singer Dex Alexander is one of the best on the current rock scene. Lyrically, ‘Unusual’ is more introspective and confessional than previous projects though still transparently honest. If you’re a rock devotee you need to investigate this album.
