Gracefully Broken, sub-titled 30 Inspirastional Worship Songs, is a multi-artist double disc compilation album released on Essential Christian in September 2018.
A two-disc collection of 30 songs in total, this collection takes its title from the Matt Redman worship hit song featured on the first CD. Essential Christian, the ministry which runs Spring Harvest – now in its 40th year – do a great job in organising such a pivotal event which has played such an important part in the development of modern worship music. However, its releases, particularly its compilation albums, suffer from a problem which has beset many albums down the years, that of failing to identify the sources of the recordings and which worship leaders are singing on them. Attentive listeners will no doubt pick up on the fact that Cathy Burton is singing the Hillsong anthem «What A Beautiful Name» while Rend Collective can be heard once or twice. But really it is shoddy packaging not to tell potential purchasers the vocalists on these “30 inspirational worship songs,” particularly when there are some outstanding performances here. «We Are The Free» is an excellent drum/guitar driven energetic rendition of the popular chorus while Rend Collective’s song «Every Giant Shall Fall» is an engaging honest and encouraging listen. In between the outstanding, there are songs which will probably in time get you skipping to your favourites. There is no denying the overall musical quality on offer here, but an informative sleeve would have made it so much better. [Stephen Luff, Cross Rhythms, May 2019]
