Poems / Seven Hills

Description

Poems / Seven Hills is a double disc instrumental album by the British singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Adrian Snell, released on Serious Music in 2001.

This double CD set is all instrumental. Disc one, ‘Poems’, features 15 pieces from Adrian’s back catalogue, with classics such as «Coverdale», «City Of Peace» and «With The Sun On Her Wings». Disc two, ‘Seven Hills’, is rather more adventurous, even experimental. Adrian has been working recently with Jon Birch of Radiogram Studios in Bath, who co-produced ‘City Of Peace‘. Jon has been remixing and sampling in order to introduce new textures and colours into the more traditional musical expressions that have been the Snell trademark since his first recordings back in 1975. The titles of the 10 tracks on ‘Seven Hills’ are unfamiliar (except for «Coverdale» which is “revisited” with a synth soundscape before and after the familiar melody) and the ambience created is at times both serene and turbulent – very much in the tradition of symphonic tone poems, very much music to stir the soul.[Trevor Kirk, Cross Rhythms, September 2001]
