Gospel Cannonball

Description

Gospel Cannonball, sub-titled Contents 10 Cowboy Spirituals, is a country/bluegrass inspired multi-artist praise & worship album released on Maranatha! Music in 1984, distributed by Word. The album was recorded and mixed by Joe Bellamy at Peace in the Valley Recording in Arleta, California; with Al Perkins producing. The title track, as well as “Stop, Look And Listen”, were written by the late Bill Sprouse Jr. of The Road Home fame.

Although record buyers are just now discovering the joy of bluegrass-based artists like Ricky Skaggs, the Whites, and the Judds, southern gospel fans have loved banjo and fiddle music for years. Now it looks like everybody else is jumping on the bandwagon. Al Perkin’s ‘Gospel Cannonball’ is the cream of the crop, immaculately produced and lovingly performed by a variety of artists, including Richie Fuary, Bob Bennett, Bernie Leadon and, of course, Perkins on steel guitar. ‘Cannonball’ isn’t quite as transcendent as his ‘Down Home Praise‘ from a while back, but it’s close.
