What Love’s All About

Description

What Love’s All About is the sophomore release and sole full-length album by the American rockabilly combo THe Lifters, released on MRC Records in 1985, a sub-label of Maranatha! Music. The album was recorded and mixed by Derri Daugherty of The Choir fame with band member Chris Brigandi producing.

The Lifters are Chris Brigandi on lead and background vocals, as well as Gretsch electric and Gibson Acoustic guitars; Rex Harvey on Fender electric guitars and background vocals; Kass on slapbass, electric bass, and background vocals; and Joey Mitchell on skins and background vocals.

The album features the traditional classic “Operator” sung by a young Marnie Saundenberg who would later start a great unheralded Southern California band called Daughter Eve and who was very good friends with Maria McKee of Lone Justice fame.

The Lifters would do one more album, though this time under a new band name, Wild Blue Yonder, featuring a young Crystal Lewis on lead vocals (who – alongside Chris Brigandi – recently had been part of the Hi-Tops cast). That album would be produced by Terry Scott Taylor of Daniel Amos fame. (The Lifter’s original drummer, Brian Ray, would eventually marry Crystal Lewis and their dream of starting their own record label came true with the creation of Metro One Records in 1992.) Some of the band members went on to record a jump-jive album entitled Attack of the Screamin’ Rays!, under the moniker The Screamin’ Rays.
