Messiah, Bright Morning Star is a musical written by the American singer-songwriter duo Reba Rambo & Dony McGuire, released on Light Records in 1982. Also manufactured and distributed by Elektra/Asylum Records, a division of Warner Communications. (“This is the music of Christmas… of Good Friday… of Easter… of that great day when we shall be together with Him… this is the music of the Messiah, our Bright Morning Star.”) Album tracks and vocals were recorded by Warren Petterson at Mama Jo’s Recording Studio in North Hollywood, California; with Dony McGuire and Bill Cole producing for Productions of McGuire. Overdubs engineered by Win Kutz assisted by Steve Ford. Orchestrations recorded by Bob Clark at Benson Studio. Mixed at Mama Jo’s. Arranged by Dony McGuire (rhythm, vocals) and Buddy Skipper (orchestrations). All songs written by Reba Rambo/Dony McGuire except track A4 written by McGuire/Bill Gaither, B2 written by McGuire/Judy Gossett, B3 and B4 written by Rambo/McGuire/Gossett, and track B5 written by Rambo/McGuire/Bill & Gloria Gaither.
Featuring Dony McGuire on piano, synthesizer, and organ, Hadley Hockensmith and Marty Walsh on guitars, Nathan East on bass, and Bill Maxwell on drums, with percussion provided by Alex Acuña, Farrell Morris, and Sandra Crouch. Also featuring the Nashville String Machine and Nashville Hornworks, as well as a Choir.
