The New Covenant: A Teaching Musical

Description

The New Covenant, sub-titled A Teaching Musical, is the fourth album by the American singer and songwriter John Fischer, released on Light Records in 1975. The album was recorded by Howard Steele at A&M Studios; with John Fischer and Dan Collins producing. Mixed at Dubbington Downs. Arranged by Clark Gassman. All songs written by John Fischer except tracks A4 and B2 written by Dale Annis.

The New Covenant talks about a new way to be holy. Not new because it hasn’t been around before, but new because many of us are just now beginning to enjoy it. If your experience has been anything like mine, you’ve been trying to live the Christian life for years plagued with failure, frustration and loneliness, and you’ve grown tired of covering it up with a sick “Praise the Lord” smile on your face. Well get set for the down-to-earth, life changing principles the Apostle Paul teaches in II Corinthians 3 and 4. And get set for forty-five excited kids singing them for you. And get set for a life of adventure should you decide to allow God to mold and shape and fire you into a vessel that He can fill and use for his Glory. – John Fischer [Note on the back of the LP sleeve]

This is not a regular John Fischer release, but a rather a musical about “a new way to be holy”, written by Fischer, performed by Fischer and others. Music is of the choral folk, pop and light rock variety, with periodic solo vocalists (including Fischer), plus short spoken passages between the songs. The rock angle does manage to pick up occasionally (I believe I heard some fuzz in there), but still this project may not have the same appeal as his other albums to a lot of listeners. Contains «Alleluia», one of his best known songs. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
