The Jimmy Owens Impact is an album by the American vocal combo Jimmy Owens and The Impact Singers, released on Heart Warming/Impact Records in 1969. The album was recorded at Whitney Recording Studios in Glendale, California; with Bob MacKenzie producing. Arranged and conducted by Jimmy Owens.

Mr. Webster, the dictionary man, says that the word “impact” means “to drive firmly together; a striking together; violent contact; a collision.”

We believe that this word best describes the effect that composer/arranger/conductor/performer Jimmy Owens has had in the past few years in the world of “young sound” Christian music. Through his records, books and the nationally television “World of Youth” show he has influenced young people around the country.

Jimmy is an exciting young musician who understands the kind of music that is communicating the strongest messages to the young people of today. Add to this knowledge his urgent concern to communicate the life-changing message of Jesus Christ and you have that special kind of “young sound” message music that we call “The Jimmy Owens Impact.”

In this album, Jimmy and his group, The Jimmy Owens Impact, which includes some of Southern California’s brightest young singers and instrumentalists, show the young world where the answers to the serious life-questions can be found using the musical language of today (i.e. folk, rock, soul, jazz and even a touch of country). The Jimmy Owens Impact produces “a violent contact; a collision” with the cynical desperation that is the message of many of the lyrics we hear today.

Jimmy Owens is “a young man on the way up” – as the jazz standard on side two talks about – who has “taken a look at his life” and decided to use all his talent, energy and influence to tell the “young world” that Jesus Christ makes life worth living!
