Description
Where is the Love is the solo debut album by the British singer and songwriter Andrew Culverwell, released on Polydor in 1971. An N.P. (Norrie Paramor Music) production by Norrie Paramor and Nick Ingman. All titled arranged and conducted by Nick Ingman. All songs written by Andrew Culverwell.
In the ’60s Andrew was the keyboard player and singer with The Four Kingsmen before he was discovered by pop producer and impresario Norrie Paramor and signed to a solo deal with Polydor Records. This 1971 debut album predates the song «Come On Ring Those Bells» which is probably his best known number and was made famous by gospel singer Evie. In 1971, this was a mainstream release and features Andrew’s pleasant pop voice, plenty of strong arrangements, good songwriting and his distinctive organ playing. The results are a pop album that is very much of its time but in an era where there wasn’t much of an infrastructure for Christian music in the UK, the quality is there for it to be released on Polydor. There are quite a few standouts here including the groovy «Once There Was A Time» which features some great organ playing and the title track complete with its fuzzy guitar! «Find A Mountain» highlights some great gospelly backing vocals that pop up on a few of the tracks here. A couple of years after this, Culverwell was discovered by Andrae Crouch and found success as a writer and artist in America. [Mike Rimmer, Cross Rhythms]
