Description
Extended Play Remixes is a CD-EP featuring Scott Blackwell re-mixes of three tracks originally featured on the American synth-pop band Code of Ethics‘ self-titled 1993-album, released on ForeFront Records in 1994, distributed in the US by Star Song Communications. (The EP’s fourth track, marked as “bonus track,” was engineered and mixed by Marc Chevalier and remixed by Code of Ethics’ Barry Blaze and Ian Eskelin.)
Unlike the source material for the other two remix releases from ForeFront, the Code Of Ethics music needed no dancefloor corrupting from Scott Blackwell. In fact, such is the underground, alternative dance stance that Code Of Ethics already have going that Scott has chosen to go the other way this time and has actually made the material more accessible to the mainstream dance crowd. There are two choices of «Without Reason»; one (House Mix) with fat, squelchy bass sounds and the other (Trance Dub) which opens up with swung keyboard riffs and develops into a supremely repetitive pattern. Both versions feature those familiar lower order vocals singing “Show me something more/ Give me faith without reason.” But my favourite track is the seven minutes of «Follow On» in a ‘Subtribal Groove Mix’ which sums it up perfectly. A very welcome addition to any serious Christian dance collection. [Karl Allison, Cross Rhythms, December 1994]
