Description
Flesh is a six-track CD-EP by the American singer, songwriter, and producer Andrew Osenga of The Normals and Caedmon’s Call fame, self-released by Osenga in May 2015. Flesh is part three of Andrew Osenga’s Kickstarter-funded Heart & Soul, Flesh & Bone project. Each EP features a different genre of music; Flesh is rock oriented.
The story so far – Nashville-based singer/songwriter Osenga announced his plan to release four EPs, ‘Heart’, ‘Soul’, ‘Flesh’ and ‘Bone’, each with a different musical approach. This one rocks. Throughout Andrew’s full throttle electric guitar, helped enormously by some powerhouse drumming from Paul Eckberg drive things along with only some of the subtle nuances of Andrew’s greatest strength – his fine lyric writing – getting lost in the rock music bombast. As usual, all Andrew’s songs have much to say. «We Are Not Children Anymore» takes a hefty swipe at the inherent selfishness which pervades our culture; «I Was A Cynic» reminds us how cynicism is a destructive force which hurts everyone; while the opener «Black Cloud» hints at the Exodus and a “spark divine” which is our hope. All in all, another successful project from the songsmith. One more EP still to be delivered. We can’ wait. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, March 2016]
