Description
Heart Connection is a four-track 12-inch vinyl EP by the American singer and songwriter Robin Lane, released on Recon Records in 1984. The album was recorded by Andy Mendelson at Downtown Recorders in Boston and Baker Street Studios in Watertown, Massachusetts; with Dan Russell producing. Mixed by Walter Turbitt (side A) and Mendelson (side B) at Blue Jay Recording Studio in Carlisle, Massachusetts.
This four-song EP marks both a return and departure for Robin Lane: a return to the Boston-based music scene and the departure of Leroy Radcliffe and his distinctive guitar sound (reminiscent of the Chartbusters). ‘Heart Connection’ moves away from the raw rock ‘n’ roll of Lane’s three Warner Brothers albums and utilizes more keyboards, creating a polished pop-synth effect. Eons away from the top 40, this album will in no way disappoint faithful rockers and new music listeners. Still, Lane has put together an album which makes her accessible to an even broader audience.
Lyrically, the disc is all love songs, though factor’s in Lane’s life give each song a deeper meaning. «Believe In You» speaks of enduring faith even in the midst of confusion or hard times. The best tune and the one which will probably get the most airplay is «Shot in the Dark».
Another change for Lane is new producer Dan Russell, who doubles as New England’s largest Christian concert promoter. His philosophy of being in the world, but not of it, has undoubtedly provided support for Lane, who continues to stay in the secular music scene rather than join the Christian music industry.
‘Heart Connection’, following Lane’s tradition, is an album by a Christian intended for the general public. Available from local record stores, or send $6 to Recon Records, P.O. Box 1061, Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA 02238. [Joe Paskewich, CCM, November 1984]
