Josh White / Josh Garrels is a five-track split-EP by the American singers and songwriters Josh White and Josh Garrels, independently released on Gospel Song Records in 2018, in co-operation with BEC Recordings.
Two of the Pacific Northwest’s foremost musical talents combine their efforts on this indie folk EP which features some of the most explicitly Christian material that either man has recorded. Garrels starts things off with an echo-laden meditation on the meaning of the cross: “In you, we are forgiven; sins are forgotten.” White, sounding like Peter Furler-era Newsboys, sings of giving all for the cause of Christ: “I lost my house and my good name when I found the road of my king.” «The Children’s Song» is a straight-up praise song recounting Jesus’ person and saving work. Strummed acoustic guitar, lightly garnished with electric lead counterpoint, is on the menu with tracks like «Enclosed by You», which ponders the mystery of God indwelling his people, echoing Solomon’s prayer in 1 Kings 8:27. “How could I contain You, when You contain everything?
