Description
Ascent is an album by the American singer and songwriter Rick Schroeder, released on AirCraft in 1982. The album was recorded by Henry Yoder at Aircraft Recording Studios, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was produced by Rick Schroeder and Tom Bajoras. Schroeder is backed by Argosy.
A striking orange and black illustration of a phoenix rising from the flames greets you on Rick Schroeder’s home-grown album, recorded with assistance from the band Argosy. Of particular interest are «The Beatitudes», «Phoenix» and «Tomorrow», three excellent rock tracks with a subtle hard edge and a strong progressive angle, somewhat in the direction of early DeGarmo & Key. Synthesizer figures heavily in the arrangements, working alongside some fine electric guitar. Several of the remaining songs follow a gentle acoustic ballad format, sometimes with a classical flair. Back cover notes include a dedication to Keith Green who was killed shortly before the album was recorded at Pittsburgh studio. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
