A Special Path

Description

A Special Path is the sole album by the American singer and songwriter Becky Severson, released on Artronics in 1972.

Becky belongs to that very special class of pure and simple female folksingers, sharing ground with Barbie Sipple, Marj Snyder and Linda Rich. Just as pretty a voice, too: warm, fragile and sensitive, sometimes with a light vibrato mildly suggestive of Joan Baez – a perfect fit for this album’s relaxed outdoor picturesque acoustic setting. Thirteen original songs (eight written or co-written by Becky), plus a cover of «Come To The Water». Typically just strummed or finger-picked acoustic guitar for backing, creating lovely delicate moods within titles like «God Gave Me A Light», «I’ve Searched», «Gospel Ship», «Jesus Song», «Children’s Song» and «Now». Periodic assistance from friends on bass, drums, piano, background vocals and additional guitar. A male singer joins her for «Only Word» and the lively «House Song». Sepia cover photo of Becky walking through the woods with her guitar. From St. Cloud, Minnesota, released on a St. Paul custom label. 1000 pressed. The title track was chosen to lead off Wayfaring Strangers: Ladies From The Canyon, a 2006 compilation CD of obscure female folksinger private press recordings.
