Description
See Through Me is an album by the Australian indie rock band Dumpster, released on the Australian label Toupee Records in 1998. As well released in the US on Bulletproof Music, a division of Gray Dot, distributed by Diamante Music Group (featuring slightly different cover artwork). The album was recorded at Charing Cross Studios in Sydney, Australia; 1998, with Greg Wales and the band producing. All song written by the band.
Dumpster features Grant Nelson on guitar, various keyboards, Hammond organ, and vocals, Stephen Langella on bass, and Murray Darnill on drums.
For a ‘true’ alternative sound, look no further than Dumpster. Far from being full of rubbish, this three piece from Australia think nothing of dabbling in both the experimental and progressive camps. Consisting of Grant (guitars/Hammond B3/lead vocals), Murray (drums) and Steve (bass), Dumpster’s sound engages the listener and demands attention. Overall, the mood and tone undulate between the dark, sometimes moody depths of the human condition; only to soar above despair, breaking into ethereal sounds which embrace the listener. Dumpster aptly paint a broad musical sweep atop deep lyrical crevasses in need of plummeting. Grant, Murray and Steve offer keen observations of the darkness within, juxtaposed with profound statements of hope. Produced by Greg Wales, ‘See Through Me’ aptly demonstrates Dumpster to be a musical ‘tour de force’. Greg evidently intended to bring out the best in these guys and succeeded. A superb collection of finely crafted, thought provoking and intelligently written pieces of music. [Alex Figgis, Cross Rhythms, February 1999]
