Description
The self-titled and sophomore album by the Canadian jazz-rock outfit Simeon was released on Praise Records in 1976. The album was recorded May to September 1976 by Rob Richardson at Master’s Workshop in Toronto, Canada; with the band producing and arranging. Mixed by Richardson and band member Doug McKenzie at Master’s Workshop. All songs written by Doug McKenzie.
The band features Doug J. McKenzie on guitar and lead vocals; Howard J. Baer on piano, Flugel Horn, and vocals; Cam Shearer on electric keyboards and vocals; Andrew Affleck on bass; and John Dell on drums, percussion, and vocals. Concert production by Rob Richardson.
One of those clean-as-a-whistle pop-minded jazz-rock outfits, six guys led by guitarist, songwriter and singer Doug McKenzie, later of McKenzie-Prokop Band. From light and airy tunes to funky synth stuff to dreamy acoustic ballads that remind me of The Imperials’ «Eagle Song». One loungy ballad with a flugelhorn. Lead vocal arrangements are pretty smooth, especially the Glad-like a cappella intro to «Son Of Man». Overall not too shabby. File with Sonlight and Messenger. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
