Lasting Impressions

Description

Lasting Impressions is the third album by the German-Canadian pop/rock band Deliverance, released on Atlantic Records in 1978. Also manufactured and distributed by WEA Music of Canada. The album was recorded by Will Roper and Brille at Paragon Studios in Berlin, Germany; April 26th – 30th and June 5th – 12th, 1978, with Horst Müller producing in cooperation with the band. Mixed by Müller and Paul Janz with Zeke Lund at Union Studios in Munich, Germany; August 8th – 13th, 1978. The album track “Tender Love” was covered by Hope on their 1980-album Which Side Are You On?.

In 1978 the band – together with Jack Stenekes – self-released an album on Janz Team entitled Der König kommt under the moniker Junge Männer loben Gott.

A move to the mainstream Atlantic label (in Canada and Germany anyway) apparently meant a larger budget and bigger production values. They’ve also upped their game by infusing some sassy funk rock moves into their sound as heard on «Deliverance», «Anytime You Feel It», «Need You So Bad» and «Vanity». All the proper ingredients are in place: peppy brass, clavinet, popping bass, saxophone, even a couple falsetto Bee Gees vocal fills. Nice electric guitar and drum solos on the brisk jazzy title track. Still pretty safe overall and the expected MOR (middle of the road) ballads are there, but overall I’d say their new direction is a good thing. Intriguing cover photo of a girl with a tear streaming down her face. Recorded in Berlin, Germany [Ken Scott, The Archivist]

They were considered as one of the finest gems of AOR sound with nice vocal harmonies. First time on CD.”)
