Forever Young

Description

Hold On is the fourth studio album by the Canadian singer Connie Scott, released on the Canadian label Image 7 Records in 1989. The album was produced and arranged by Roy Salmond of Salmond & Mulder fame

‘Forever Young’ is a fine new offering from Connie Scott. By far, though, the one song that stands out is written by Mark Gersmehl, «Wild Horse Running». It doesn’t say much about Jesus (by name), but nonetheless speaks truth, encouraging the vision, dreams, and imagination of the human mind in a poignant poetic way. The title track, written by Bob Dylan in 1973, winds up the 10-song album as a sweet and mellow benediction, and then surprises the listener with a cookin’ last verse. It is here at the end, as in many of the other songs, that Scott begins to stretch herself, and her vocal strength begins to become evident, pleasantly reminiscent of Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart.

Although the record was obviously mixed with Christian radio in mind, occasionally a guitar solo can really be heard, as in «Who Do You Give Your Heart To?». Dane Deviller, Jim Woodyard, and Harris Van Burkel each contribute some fine guitar riffs and lead lines. Unfortunately, the drum/percussion programming tends to be annoying; it gets in the way of these well written songs. Connie Scott fans will like the album. I would’ve like it better if the singer would’ve stretched herself in her interpretations of some of the other songs. [Stephanie Bennett, CCM, January 1990]
