The Risen Son

Description

The Risen Son is the solo debut album by the American hip-hop artist Peace 586 (a.k.a. Rene Vasquez) of Freedom of Soul fame, released on Innocent Media in 1996, distributed by Diamante Distribution.

Peace, formerly of Freedom Of Soul, has returned with a collection of quality tunes. For this album he has teamed up with LPG (Living Proof Of Grace) whose distinctive rap style are much in evidence. On top of the cold mellow productions interesting lyrics are in plentiful supply, particularly on «Lessons In Worship» where Peace gives us a sermon: Work isn’t worship, Bible study isn’t worship we are told, with Scripture references for the flock to peruse as they listen. Real worship is giving glory to Christ as illustrated by Mary in John Chapter 12. A thought provoking message though difficult to grasp as Peace isn’t clear about how we should live it out. Out of many other noteworthy tracks I would pick «Step Inside» and «Just A Hip Hop Love Song» as my favourites. The latter is a clever allegory depicting the relationship between rhythm and rhyme in hip hop. The Risen Son’ is a serious hip hop album and requires repeated listening in order to penetrate its subtleties. The diligent shall be rewarded. [Francis Blight, Cross Rhythms, June 1996]
