Description
The self-titled debut album by the American singer and songwriter Michele Wagner was released on Benson Records in 1989, distributed by The Benson Company. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Jonathan David Brown at his studio Johnny dB’s Basement in Antioch, Tennessee.
Having written «Psalm 1» for Kim Hill, and «Whatever You Ask» for Steve Camp, Michele Wagner brings som pretty impressive credentials to her first album. Both of the aforementioned songs (which went to number one on the CCM charts) appear on Wagner’s self-titled debut. The singer/songwriter has an interesting voice, with a hint of country in it. However, it is her gifted songwriting that sets her apart from the plethora of other AC female artists. Combined with Brown’s fine production, Wagner’s songs should continue to make their presence felt on Christian radio. A very promising inaugural effort. [Jon Woodhams, CCM, October 1989]
One Of My FAV Voices in Christian Music. It didn’t take long for me to convince the BENSON company to sign her as an artist, because she had already two other artists cover two songs on this particular recording – that had made the top of the national radio airplay charts. Steve Camp had done «Whatever You Ask», and Kim Hill, «Psalm 1». But even if this jump-start for her career had not existed, I was excited to produce it, because the songs are truly just such great little “nuggets” of scripture and music – combined with one of the most expressive voices, and people, I have ever worked with.
