Description
The Presence of Your Spirit Lord is the sophomore album by the British-Australian singer and songwriter Len Magee, released in the UK on Dovetail Records in 1974. Also released in the US on Impact Records the following year. The album was recorded by Helmut Kaufmann at Echo Studios in Eastbourne, England; with John Pantry producing.
Featuring Len Magee on lead vocals and acoustic guitar backed by a session band consisting of producer John Pantry on keyboards, Ken Freeman on string synthesizer (ARP Solina), Nick Ryan on bass, and Mike Wade on drums. Backing vocals provided by Gwen Murray.
Here is the second gospel album from the heart and voice of Len Magee. It is noticeable that the quality of this presentation transcends the height of his first attempt. His singing has taken him from humble house meetings to the Royal Albert Hall, Belle Vue Manchester and the Westminster Central Hall, in one year. This underlines the popularity and effectiveness of his style. The album is an extraordinary listening experience.
The songs are contemporary compositions, intensely warm and rhythmic. There is a distinctive sincerity of interpretation in his inspiring music. These highly original songs complement each other and Len has succeeded magnificently in communicating the gospel message. Not only is he a musician, but also a gifted preacher who walks closely with God. Len’s conviction that preaching supersedes singing has given the right balance to his ministry. His repertoire is ‘Spirit music’, characteristic of the spontaneous, joyful life which is evident in this generation of Christian young people.
Len was converted from the hippie drug orientated sub-culture, which brought him from Australia through Singapore, Calcutta and Northern India, and the city of Katmandu in Nepal, to Europe and eventually Great Britain. This has given him an authentic concern for his contemporaries which emerges clearly in the Biblical content of the lyrics. The disc is a significant contribution to modern gospel singing at its best.
