Description
You’re Not the Lone Ranger is an album by the American pop quartet John & Kathy, Shane & Alice, released on NewPax Records in 1976, distributed by Word. The album was recorded by Tom Semmes and Warren Peterson at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Shane Keister and band member John Thompson producing. All songs written by John W. Thompson.
Although flecked with CCM/MOR influences, this little known early NewPax venture actually stands up pretty well amongst the best of the label. All four members (John and Kathy Thompson, Shane and Alice Keister) have backgrounds steeped in the music biz, including stints in New Folk and Armageddon Experience for the Thompsons. You’re Not The Lone Ranger has that easy-going rural-tinged Nashville male/female Jesus music sound, with slight resemblance to artists like Mike & Kathie Deasy. Lee Garner’s electric guitar helps out a bunch when it’s there, giving that needed rock edge to songs like the title track or the excellent six-minute «Quarter/Revived». Other songs have a softer acoustic tone. Cover painting depicts a steer’s skull in the desert sand. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
