Push Back the Darkness is an album by the American husband-and-wife duo Harry Browning & Laury Boone, released on Lamb & Lion Records in 1985. The album was produced by Roby Duke.
Harry Browning’s singing and songwriting talents continue to grow and deepen with each new album. He’s left behind the country rock of earlier LPs and, with the help of immaculate production by Roby Duke, fashioned an album of attractive, modern music.
The closing «In Time» is the heart and soul of the LP. A simple, elegant ballad sung in Harry’s warm, emotional voice, this is what praise music is all about. At the same time, Harry can kick out the jams on glossy pop-rockers like the title track and «Help Me Put It in Your Hands».
Laury takes a markedly lesser role on ‘Push Back the Darkness’, but does contribute a couple of heartfelt, melodic vocals on «Make Me a Vessel» and «When I Run to You». As he did on Rob Frazier’s new album, sax man Brandon Fields adds a lyric touch to every song. Although «In Time» is the only truly classic cut, don’t let this sweet-spirited project fall between the cracks. [Bob Darden, CCM, March 1985]
