Description
I’m Grateful is the fourth studio album by the British singer and songwriter Garth Hewitt, released on Myrrh Records in 1978, a division of Word. The album was recorded August 1978 by Roger T. Wake at Redan Recorders in London, England; with Jon Miller, Rod Edwards and Roger Hand producing, a team known as Triumvirate Productions. (Triumvirate is best known for producing the first two albums of Larry Norman’s trilogi, Only Visiting This Planet and So Long Ago the Garden, as well as Malcolm & Alwyn‘s two studio albums.) The album features background vocals by The Jessy Dixon Singers, Cliff Richard, Mo McCafferty and Annie McCaig (the latter two of Nutshell fame). Also featuring Bryn Haworth on slide guitar and mandolin, as well as the legendary pedal steel player B.J. Cole and guitarist Bob Weston of Fleetwood Mac fame.
The Jessy Dixon Singers bring a soulful gospel edge to several tracks on I’m Grateful, including «A Friend Of Mine», «That’s Why We’re Here», «The Holy One (Has Crossed The River)» and «All The Time». Bryn Haworth returns on slide guitar and mandolin, while Cliff Richard provides backing vocals to three songs. Also of note is the presence of one time Fleetwood Mac member Bob Weston on acoustic and electric guitars, dobro and electric slide guitar. Garth’s harmonica can be found on five of the eleven songs. Favorite track: the closing «May You Live To Dance (On Your Own Grave)», a kickin’ country jammer based on the tune «What A Friend We Have In Jesus». [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
