Description
No Time to Lose is the fifth solo album by the American contemporary gospel singer and songwriter Andraé Crouch, released on Light Records in 1984. The album was recorded by Denis Degher and Doug Rider at Weddington Studios in North Hollywood, at Redwing Studios in Tarzana, and at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California; with Andraé Crouch and Bill Maxwell producing for Crouch Music Corporation. Mixed by Denis Degher. All songs written by Andraé Crouch.
The album won a Dove in the Contemporary Black Gospel Album category at the Gospel Music Association’s 16th Dove Awards, 1985.
Andrae Crouch’s latest release, ‘No Time To Lose’, follows the tradition set by his two most recent collections, ‘Don’t Give Up’ and ‘Finally’: Slick production (this time by Andrae and Bill Maxwell), smooth vocal arrangements that sometimes cut sharp as a razor, and guest appearances from a variety of musicians. Even though the jacket reads Andrae Crouch, the spotlight is not exclusively on him. Over half of the nine tracks feature other vocalists as well (Kristle Edwards, Howard Smith, and Tata Vega).
«Got Me Some Angels», a zesty opener featuring the spine-tingling, high harmonies which have become a Crouch trademark, boasts a pulsating beat that eventually breaks down into a Latin-flavored groove complete with timbale fills. «Right Now» be-bops in the tradition of an earlier Crouch composition, «This Is Another Day», while «Oh, It Is Jesus» and «Always Remember» have all the makings of bona fide gospel classics, surely to be covered by community choirs throughout the country.
«His Truth Still Marches On», an adaptation of a single line from the patriotic «Battle Hymn of the Republic», is just as stirring and inspiring as the original. «Somebody Somewhere Is Prayin’ (Just for You)» acts as a follow-up to Andrae’s earlier «I’ll Be Thinking of You», continuing the message of encouragement and comfort in the knowledge that somebody cares enough to pray.
«Livin’ This Kind of Life» is an innovative track featuring a percolating synthesizer/bass line that locks into an ’80s new music feel, setting up a solid backbeat for one irresistible melody. This cut is a definitie change of pace for Andrae and friends.
‘No Time To Lose’ has no delusions of grandeur. It isn’t meant to be an earth-shaking, ground-breaking, roundly unique LP. It’s simply what Andrae Crouch has always done best: solid black gospel with contemporary r&b tinges, a genuinely successful formula that always delivers what it promises.
‘No Time To Lose’ is another fine collection of tunes from one of gospel music’s most talented artists. [Stephen Ledesma, CCM, September 1984]
