I Hope & I Pray is a 7-inch single by the British artists Alvin Stardust and Sheila Walsh, released on Chrysalis Records in 1986 (catalogue number ALV 4). In the mid-80s Alvin Stardust (a persona taken by the English pop singer and stage actor Bernard William Jewry) moved more into TV work and became the co-host of the “Rock Gospel Show” with Sheila Walsh leading to them recording a single together. I Hope And I Pray was released both as a 7-inch single (featuring “Speak Of Love” written by Alvin Stardust and Sheila Walsh as the B-side) and a 12-inch maxi-single (featuring an extended version of “I Hope And I Pray” as well as two more tracks; “Speak Of Love” and “Save The Children”). “I Hope And I Pray” was included as a bonus track on the CD version of Sheila Walsh’s 1986 Sparrow Records album Shadowlands. The single led to a role for Alvin Stardust in the UK stage production of Godspell as well.
