Description
Jordan’s Sister is the debut album by the American singer and songwriter Kendall Payne, released on Capitol Records in July 1999. Later manufactured and marketed by Sparrow Records, distributed by Chordant Distribution Group. The album was produced and arranged by Ron Aniello except tracks 4 and 5 produced by Glen Ballard. Jordan’s Sister became a critic’s favourite, enjoying six figure sales, a Dove Award for Best Alternative Rock Album and inclusions on the soundtracks of a couple of high profile American movies.
First reviewed in Cross Rhythms No. 58 and originally released back in 1999, this has now been taken on by Fierce!. And no wonder, for this is simply one of the best singer/songwriter records in recent years. One of Kendall’s strengths is her honesty coupled with her uncanny ability to translate it to song. It would be hard to pick a standout, such is the quality on offer, but «Closer To Myself» and «Perfect By Thursday» (which all ladies will relate to) are delightful radio-friendly pop, «Supermodels» is brilliant, witty, Alanis-like fare and there are delicate vulnerable ballads such as «Honest» and «Fatherless At 14» to challenge and inspire. Basically, every cut a winner and an album to cherish. [Steve Best, Cross Rhythms, September 2001]
