Description
Geared to Groove is a five-track cassette-only EP by the American alternative rock band Lost Tribe, independently released on Scribe Music 1992. The album was recorded by Grant Mohrman, Dwight Mohrman, and Steve Szajna at Side Stick Studio and at the Disc Ltd in Detroit, Michigan; with the band producing, assisted by Greg Reilly. Mixed and mastered by Greg Reilly at the Disc Ltd.
Lost Tribe features Dwight Mohrman on lead vocals; Grant Mohrman on guitar and background vocals; Andrew Scot Barancik on bass and background vocals; and Ken Capton on drums. The EP as well features Pierre Mayo providing rap and scratching (track A4); Terry Crews providing rap (track A4); Tabita Anderson on keyboards (tracks A2, A4, and A5); Vince Gaskew on drums (track A2); and Josh Spohn on drums (track A4).
This tape has some interesting history with it. Dwight, Grant, and Andrew were previously in a band called Extreme Silence, which have been reviewed here before. At some point after this, they joined with Leaderdogs for the Blind, which was a solo project by guitarist Lyndon Perry. As that band, they released the killer album Lemonade on R.E.X. Music in 1995. Leaderdogs split up, but the Lost Tribe trio decided to continue as Lost Tribe. Their evolving style caused them to change names to Full on the Mouth in 1996. Oh, and that rap on «Ms. Fortune»? Yes, that is THE Terry Crews doing that. The style of this tape sometimes gets described as grunge, but it was more groove metal as the title would imply. Guitars are grungy, but the vocals and song structure are often not. But it is a great ep regardless of what style you say it is. [Christian Tape Underground, September 5, 2026]
