Description
Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right…but Three Do is the third full-length album by the American pop-punk band Relient K, released on Gotee Records in March 2003, distributed in the US by Chordant Distribution. The album was recorded at Yellow Studios in Canton, Ohio; and was produced by Mark Lee Townsen with band member Matt Thiessen co-producing. Mixed by F. Reid Shippen, assisted by Dan Shike, at Recording Arts in Nashville, Tennessee. All songs written by band member Matthew Thiessen. The album peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard 200, as well as number two on the US Top Christian Albums chart. It was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album in 2004. The album was certified Gold (500,000 copies sold) by the RIAA in March 2005.
Relient K features Matt Thiessen on guitar, acoustic piano, and lead vocals; Matt Hoopes on guitar and background vocals; Brian Pittman on bass; and Dave Douglas on drums and background vocals.
Sounding like All Star United on speed, Relient K are at it from the start of this CD with the driving «Chapstick, Chapped Lips And Things Like Chemistry» opening up an album that never sits back from a blend of edgy rock and the thinking man’s lyric. Tracks like «College Kids» or the laidback «Getting Into You» show that the Ks can produce almost any style of rock without losing their musical or spiritual edge. You could play this album mixed up with Wheatus or They Might Be Giants and non-Christians wouldn’t spot any stylistic difference. Musically tongue in cheek openings and lyrics like the ones for «In Love With The ’80s» show that the boys aren’t just a bunch of Jesus Freaks with guitars, but rather are sophisticated masters of their tuneful trade. Special K? The Relients are serial thrillers and should be your breakfast listening this morning without fail. [Peter Ould, Cross Rhythms, May 2003]
