Songs from the Book

Description

Songs from the Book is a multi-artist project released on Word Entertainment in May 1999, a division of Word Music Group. (Also released by Word Entertainment Special Market.) Also manufactured and distributed by Epic, a division of Sony Music. The album tied in with a campaign to persuade Americans to read the Bible and was a collaboration between Word Entertainment and book publishers Tyndale House.

The album track “El Shaddai” by Winans Phase 2 was released as a promo single prior to the album release.

America’s Word Entertainment hooked up with book publishers Tyndale House to release ‘Songs From The Book’ featuring many of CCM’s biggest names including Anointed, Amy Grant, Michael Card, BeBe Winans, Jaci Velasquez, Point of Grace, Steven Curtis Chapman and Sixpence None The Richer. The album features five new recordings and eight “radio hits”, with the first single from the project being a revival of «El Shaddai» sung by Winans Phase 2, the cousins and sons of the Winans veterans. The album was tied in with an ongoing campaign to persuade Americans to read the Book, aka the Bible.

The Book is the Bible – the world’s all-time best-seller.

The Bible enjoys the distinction of being the most read book in history. This particular edition is one of the easiest to understand since it is a thought for thought translation. Instead of translating the original Hebrew and Greek texts word for word, the ideas are expressed, as ordinary people in the late twentieth century would say them, with our idioms, word pictures and expressions. The intent is to make the scriptures easier to read, understand and apply to everyday life.

In similar fashion, ‘Songs from The Book’ seeks to illuminate the scriptures using the universal language of music. This collection of songs features a host of top Christian recording artists performing songs that have direct ties to scripture. In some cases a song may have many scriptural references. You’ll find these references listed with each song’s lyrics.
