Let Us Go into the House of the Lord

Description

Let Us Go into the House of the Lord is an album by the American gospel choir The Edwin Hawkins Singers, released on Pavilion Records in 1968, distributed by Buddah Records.

Edwin Hawkins (August 19, 1943 – January 15, 2018).

December 27, 1969, the CASHBOX magazine lists the Top 100 Pop Singles year-end chart where the Edwin Hawkins Singers’ hit «Oh Happy Day» listed at number 78. In 1969, a San Francisco rock promoter found a copy of the album in a warehouse as he was flipping through a stack of Gospel records. He bought it and gave it to Dan Sorkin, a famous DJ on radio station KSFO. Sorkin loved the song and played it two or three times each day during his 3 hour show and interviewed Dorothy Morrison and Edwin Hawkins. Overwhelming demand caused the song to be released as a single – one million copies were sold in 2 months.
