So Far: The Best of Susan Ashton, Volume One is a compilation album by the American singer Susan Ashton, released on Sparrow Records in August 1995. This is an album of mostly previously released singles as well as a newly recorded track entitled “Stand.”
If Cross Rhythms ever get around to publishing a Building A Basic Christian Music Library article or somesuch, we’d no doubt include this compilation (or possibly Susan’s other best of, 2006’s excellent ‘Ultimate Collection’). What we can say is that this set, released in 1995, contains the creme-de-la-creme of the Nashville singer’s work with tracks like 1994’s «Waiting For Your Love To Come Down», 1992’s «Here In My Heart» and her haunting, all time classic, 1991’s «Down On My Knees» showing off just why Ms Ashton briefly vied with Amy as THE voice of CCM. As is demonstrated on some of the later tracks here Susan had a style which contained a bit of country in its inflections. (Susan went on to make an unsuccessful pitch at the country music mainstream.) But even if you don’t usually care for country music, Susan’s pure-toned voice and exemplary productions from Wayne Kirkpatrick make the tracks here CCM of the highest quality.
