Description
The self-titled, sole album by the Norwegian jazz-rock combo Soli Deo (Per Arne Øiestad and Rune Bratfoss) was released in Norway on the indie label Power Music in 1981, distributed by Muvi A/S. The album was recorded February 8-10, 1980 by Per Sveinson at Arne Bendiksen Studio in Oslo, Norway; with Styrk Jansen producing for Power Music. Overdubs (rhythm section) recorded March 9, 1980 by Bjørn Lillehagen at BEL Studio in Oslo. Mixed March 16, 1980 by Sveinson and Jansen at Arne Bendiksen Studio
The album features Per Arne Øiestad on acoustic piano and vocals; Rune Bratfoss on electric piano, Poly Moog, and bass; Stein Eide on acoustic piano; Torkil Myhre and Aslak Oppebøen on guitars; Geir Adolfsen on drums; and Jarle Jansen on percussion. Also featuring Rune Nicholaysen on saxophone and fluet, as well as Erik Halvorsen and Erling Strøm on trumpet. Background vocals provided by Jostein Øiestad, Oddrun Eikli, Tina Kjellhov, and Kari Iveland.
The album track “No Smoking!” was later included on the multi-artist sampler Lukk opp kirkens dører: A selection of Norwegian Christian Jazz, Psych, Funk and Folk 1970-1980 released in Norway on Plastic Strip in April 2011.
