Description
Original Intentions is an album by the American alternative rock band The Lonely Now, released on Narrowpath Records in 1987. The album was engineered by Fred Eichel with the band producing. All songs written by band member Greg Sostrom.
Featuring Greg Sostrom on guitar and vocals (a.k.a. Greg Strange, founder of Narrowpath Records); Masaki Liu (later of Dime Store Prophets fame) on guitar, violin, and vocals; Phil Watson on bass and vocals; and Kevin Reimer on drums and vocals.
This is the second album by The Lonely Now, a year after 1986’s Captive. «If I Could» from that album was re-recorded here. I have had this tape for a while, and that opening rift is often stuck in my head. This is the kind of alternative rock I love – a little bit of U2, but heavier, with a good helping of all of the other great 80s alt rock bands. This was the album of theirs with Masaki Liu in the band, so maybe that is why I like it the most. In fact, it is the same band as from the last album, but just with Liu joining to make a four-piece. Front man Greg Sostrom was also running Narrowpath Records at the time – which was always trying to launch as a full national label, but always running into problems. It would be three years before the next (and final) album by the band – 1990’s Honest Tear. It would also be a completely new band behind Sostrom as well. The album was also released on vinyl as well as cassette. [Christian Tape Underground, August 27, 2026]
