Description
I May Sing Grace is the sophomore album by the British singer and songwriter Geoff Mann (following his first solo album, the cassette-only album Chants Would Be a Fine Thing, released in March 1984), released on Food For Thought Records September 1984, a sub-label of Music for Nations. The album was recorded 27th July – 5th August, 1984 by Steve Millie at Pullman Studios in Knutsford, England. Featuring Geoff Mann, Keith Gould, The Still Owl, Dave Mortimer, Howard Jones, and Andy Mason.
Geoff Mann’s ‘I May Sing Grace’ is an album for those to whom the term ‘alternative music’ evokes images of something extremely positive and means an adventure into the mind and heart of music. Geoff’s album is an alternative to average Christian music, as there’s nothing average about it. It’s gutsy music written and performed as an attention-deserving piece of art – not as an apology for it own existence. With a musical style similar to Peter Gabriel or King Crimson, you can be assured this is a highly progressive album oozing with creativity. OK, I love his musical style and attitude, but what about the lyrics, etc? If one reads these lyrics it’s easy to imagine them accompanying mellower music in church. The message is there – addressing issues based on passages of Scripture in each song and done tactfully enough to not come across as blatant propaganda… this is not your average stereotypical ‘Christian music’ album. Geoff Mann’s ‘I May Sing Grace’ was recorded at Pullman Studios. The artiste’s profits (presuming that there are any) are to be contributed to the Pendlebury Children’s Hospital, Salford, and Ethiopean famine relief.
