Love Them While We Can

Description

Love Them While We Can is the sixth album by the American singer, songwriter, and producer Chris Christian, released on Myrrh Records in 1983, a division of Word. The album was recorded by Jack Joseph Puig at Gold Mine Studio in Brentwood, Tennessee; with Chris Christian producing assisted by Dawn Allen and Daryl Bush. Mixed by Jeff Balding.

On tracks A1, A3, A4, B3, and B5, Chris Christian is backed by four members of White Heart (Mark Gersmehl, Dann Huff, Gary Lunn, and David Huff) as well as Phil Naish and Dennis Solee.

Chris Christian has presented in ‘Love Them While We Can’ (Myrrh MSB-6746) a gentle, high quality musical exhortation to the body of Christ. The album draws freely from both the airiness of West Coast pop and the fullness of Nashville production. The carefully intricate and sophisticated arrangements are accessible without being common, comfortable without being predictable. Fortunately, these qualities don’t overshadow the lyrics – exhorting us to be “doers” of the Word and sensitive to the needs of unsaved and brothers alike.

The title cut, «Love Them While We Can», speaks about honoring our parents. It sets the tone of the album: honor your Father who is in heaven. «Too Heavenly Minded» and «Why Are We First?» concern our human weaknesses. «Put Your Trust (In the Hands of Jesus)» and «Weight of the World» remind us that Jesus is our refuge and strength.

«Sweet Destiny» is notable as a praise song that is pop and electric, an unusual combination. The final song, «Pray for Me Always», addresses the need in all our lives and fittingly sums up the album. [Jerald Thomas, CCM, April 1983]
