For the Best

Description

For the Best is a gospel album by the American pop singer B.J. Thomas, released on MCA Songbird in 1980, manufactured by MCA Records. The album was recorded and mixed by Brown Bannister assisted by Jimmy Birch at Gold Mine Studio in Nashville, Tennessee; with Chris Christian producing. Strings arranged by Bergen White and horns arranged by Buddy Skipper. Featuring two tracks written by Pat Terry; “Everyday Man” and “You”.

This is Thomas’ fourth Christian album, although it’s his first for MCA/Songbird. Possibly the most remarkable thing about the album is that, like Home Were I Belong (his best selling album to date), Chris Christian is the producer. Back is the punchy pop sound that was once a B.J. Thomas trademark, and it feels quite natural.

For the Best is loaded with great tunes, including Chris Christian’s «Wakin’ On A Cloud», «More of You» and «Everything Always Works Out For the Best», as well as «You» and «Everyday Man» by Pat Terry. This could be B.J.’s finest package to date. [CCM, May 1980]
