Description
Home Where I Belong is the gospel debut album by the American pop singer B.J. Thomas (August 7, 1942 – May 29, 2021), released on Myrrh Records in 1976, a division of Word. The album was recorded and mixed by Brown Bannister with Chris Christian producing. (It was actually the very first album that Bannister did engineer, as well as the second album that Christian did produce.) The title song was written by Pat Terry and “Shine On” was written by Mike Hudson. The album won a Grammy in the Best Inspirational Performance category at the 20th Annual Grammy Awards.
A full-page advertisement for Home Where I Belong was featured in the April 2, 1977 issue of Billboard Magazine. The album sold 350,000 copies in 1976, a huge amount in Christian music, where 15,000 in sales was considered a big hit. The record would win a Grammy and Dove award for Thomas for best inspirational performance. It eventually became the first CCM album to go platinum – with one million in sales.
